The front building restaurant’s maritime theme reflects the building’s history. Located right on the banks of the Elbe, it was previously frequented by river boatmen.
Nowadays you can expect to see a modern restaurant accommodating approx. 45 diners, which has stayed true to its origins. Stop in and have a look - it’s well worth a visit!

Are you searching for a cosy space for your party? With 60 seats and a rustic atmosphere, the back building’s “Alte Schmiede”, or “old forge”, invites you to look around and while away some time. Here you can still see many original tools and machines (e.g., anvils, power hammers, drills, blacksmith’s fire, grinding lathes).
You would like to order something? All you need to do is hammer the little anvil on your table!
Every year at the beginning of the warm season, the courtyard is transformed into an idyllic beer garden seating approx. 35.
Whether you’re looking to soak up some sun or want to chill out in the shade, or if you’re a cyclist on the Elbe Cycle Route, a tourist from elsewhere in the world or a local, you can drop in to relax and recharge.
The property at Uferstrasse 9 consists of a 4-sided courtyard. The oldest section of the building is the front building, built in 1587. Since 1897, the property at Uferstrasse 9 has been in the possession of the Herzog family. Our guest house has been located in the buildings at Uferstrasse 10 and 11 since 2009.
Our guild and inn sign dates from the year 1767. It points to the many trades that used to be at work in our building. (Farriery, nail forging, coach building, shoemaking, hostelry, hospitality)
The first available alcohol license dates back to the year 1905 and is made out to Mr Clemens Moritz Herzog, the great-grandfather of Ms Kathrin Herzog, who has been running the restaurant since 1991 and the guest house since 2007.
Any mention of the Elbe nowadays must also include the floods of 2002. First of all, it is entirely normal for a river in central Europe to break its banks in the early part of the year.
The Elbe’s average flow is 322 cubic metres of water per second. When flooding, this can increase by ten to fifteen times. During the floods of August 2002, it rose to almost twenty times this amount!
